Coltrane's third session as a leader, recorded on 15 September 1957 for Blue Note, although he was still under contract of Prestige (that is why the rear jacket has: "John Coltrane performs by courtesy of Prestige Records"). The sextet includes Lee Morgan (tp), Curtis Fuller (tb), Kenny Drew (p), Paul Chambers (3) (b) and "Philly" Joe Jones (d).

Hi, this is not a review but a comment/question. Does anyone else have a copy of this that is a sometime in the 60's Liberty Pressing with Stereo labels BST 1577 but side 1 is actually Mono (RVG BN-LP-1577- A...) and side 2 is Stereo as advertised (RVG STEREO BN-ST-1577 B.) I'm trying to figure out what this is and why it's like this and if there are other copies of the sort. The labels are Blue Note Records . A Division of Liberty Records, Inc. labels and the cover has an oval STEREO sticker in red on a white background.

My copy sound really nice, only a bit of quiet surface noise is noticeable when listened to through headphones and the music more than overpowers it most of the time. The occasional pop or tick doesn't bother me considering the price. The mastering on the music itself is excellent, clear, deep and punchy. I'd recomend picking it up if you can get it play tested.

Sounds bright and a little bit too artificial IMHO. Dead silent pressing however.

Listen, not everyone can afford as OGC or Analog Production copy. For $20 bills this is not a bad record. Mine is also flat and fairly quiet. It's all about the music right.

Avoid this release at all costs. The level of atrociousness is hard to comprehend, as it sits in a cell buried in the deepest and darkest corners of Hell, along with the Wax Time color variant series from DOL. Pure unadulterated garbage.

heavy vinyl (180 g) and RVG Master Tape! The cutting was done by one of the legendary Japanese engineers called, Mr Kotetsu Toru. The Only downside of this reissue is that they used the digital master tape that RVG remastered at that time. (quote from JazzBluesJapan)

Poor remaster, compressed in mono with no stereo separation whatsoever.

Don't buy this version.

Fantastic sounding pressing! There have been complaints that the remaster is too bright sounding, but what we're actually hearing is precise detailing. Not bad at all. And reasonably affordable for financially challenged collectors.
